Rhetoheat.com - discussion forum/ social network launched!

Its been quite a busy couple of months for me. I have been involved in several projects including this personal one: www.rhetoheat.com. Its been at the back of my mind to give the social networking website idea a try. I have done so in the past but had to wrap it up. This time I wanted to try it in a different way. www.rhetoheat.com is a discussion forum with a social networking twist.

Features include:
- users can create/ have relationships with other members
- upload and share media - (only video for now), audio and photos will come soon
- maintain a profile page showing their friends, posts, bookmarked items (videos, forum posts, photos, etc).
- members can write and maintain blogs (coming soon)
- Many more features

I believe in members getting some reward for using the website - no matter how small. At the moment I am trying to work out a feature that will do this. (I have no clue yet what to do :)). Of course, in future, there will be site hosted competitions where members can win prizes. Am thinking of something different from the obvious.

The main hub of the website is the discussion forum hence the name. I derived "rhetoheat" from the English word "rhetoric" which, in the dictionary, means "the art or science of all specialized literary uses of language in prose or verse, including the figures of speech" or simply, the use of language. Rhetoheat would therefore mean "the heat of discussion".

In the beginning I tried to find a focus or niche for the site but later decided to throw it open. Why restrict membership or site focus? Discussions can be on anything. Members can, therefore, talk about any and everything they wish. Be it what they just saw on TV, their emotional experiences or a boring topic in philosophy. There must be someone out there with the same interests. As I said earlier, the site's membership focus is global though more than half of the initial posts have been about Nigeria. (all the testers are from naija :))

At the moment, www.rhetoheat.com is undergoing construction and testing but the registration system and discussion is active and open for use. New features will be added continually. Most of the posts right now are by my friends who have agreed to help with testing. Thanks guys. Registration is free and will continue to be so till "thy kingdom come".
